- Comin to the end of 15 years of compulsory education and i am so very relieved. One whole year of freedom and one i recommend everyone to take. I lived for the first 11 years of my life in Bulawayo-Zimbabwe. Came to England 6 days from my 12th birthday. I am slightly vain, but aspiringly spiritual. I believe with all my being in God and Jesus Christ his son (complicated concept i know). My whole family is Christian and considering where my grandparents and parents came from, it is to me obvious that God has made us what we are. In this year, i will be seaching out my next big step in life towards 'the mark of the prize of the high calling of God through Jesus our Lord'.

I agree with the fact that there are timeless archetypes of all things cassubian. I think there are certain things people have always been fixated on as far back as our historical knowledge takes us- some of it Must be real!

but, using something that you adhered to from te bible:
"solomon's" saying that 'there is nothing new under the sun' is rendered untrue if the mind can fathom things that doesn't exist. The argument is everything is in existence already. whether its been discovered or not is another thing.

That last line is the killer. I love this blog.
I think the question is unclear. The definitionn of a concept as I understand it is 'a thought or notion.' Basically a concept is an idea.
How can you even come to the point of struggling to understand a concept if it hasn't already been formulated into existence.
I think uteng needs to enlighten me here. I am confused.
ok, fathom was a slightly misleading term. a better word would be...'conceive' or 'envision'. Happy?
yeah ok..in which case I concur with mimi's statement. Assuming that there can be nothing new in this world, then the mind can only ever consider concepts that already exist.
However, as mimi implied, it would be foolhardy to interpret that verse;
(Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 NIV) What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. {10} Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time.
..as meaning that human beings cannot discover concepts for the first time. So ultimately I have to ask Uteng if he is asking whether a)human beings can discover concepts or b)create them. The latter is not in keeping with Ecclesiastes 1:9.
